Off the island we go ... visiting, training, and to see the active volcano

Family and Friends, The weeks continue to move faster than we expected. April is quickly coming to an end, and here in Vanuatu the days are starting to feel shorter as the sun sets earlier and rises later. It has been another meaningful and full week for us. This past week, we had the opportunity to travel to the island of Tanna to help train Seminary and Institute teachers and leaders. It was a special experience and one we won’t soon forget. Monday – Preparing to leave the island We also spent Monday preparing for our upcoming trip, as well as organizing “Succeed in School” (SIS) snacks for the two locations we support on Efate. Darleen wanted to bring something to our Wednesday morning In-Service meeting on Tanna so she spent several hours making some yummy chocolate cookies, which I had to test to make sure they were worthy of the teachers on Tanna.    I have to say they passed the taste testers strict requirements, although he had to test a few just in case one ...

Waterfalls and Waves

The start of our walk up to Mele Cascades Waterfall  with Elder & Sister Meyers. Family and Friends! Here I am again with an update on our Missionary experiences. Some weeks seem to just fly by. We told them we were locals and they charged us less than the folks behind us. Then another group of local teens came in and there wa...

Happy Belated Easter

Family and Friends, Well, it’s my turn again to write our weekly missionary letter. Darleen is definitely much better at this than I am, but I suppose it gives you two different perspectives, and maybe something to look forward to next week.   😊 With this past week being Easter week, things were a little slower. Schools were out toward the end of the week, and many families began traveling for a long weekend since Monday was also a holiday here (Easter Monday). However, we still had several meaningful experiences we’d love to share from our mission in Vanuatu Port Vila. We continue making weekly visits to different seminary classes across the island to learn how we can best support the teachers and get to know the students. On Tuesday, we visited Port Vila Wards 1 and 3, splitting up so we could attend both classes. When we visited a few weeks ago, Darleen promised she would bring a treat, and she followed through by making chocolate cookies for each class. At the end, the s...
